How to Use the User Impersonation Module

Article verified for Release 15.1 on December 8, 2025.

This article explains how to use the Impersonation module.
User impersonation allows administrators to access other users’ accounts and perform actions on their behalf. When impersonating a user, the administrator gains access to all the options available to that user. However, it’s important to note that the action log clearly indicates that the action was performed while impersonating another profile.

This feature is handy across scenarios such as troubleshooting, user support, training, and onboarding.

Enabling Impersonation Option

To use this feature, it must first be enabled under Additional modules setup. Do the following:

  1. Select the System, then the Settings and customization tab.
  2. Select the System preferences tab.
  3. Select the Additional modules setup tab.
  4. Enable the User impersonation module.

Using the impersonate option

To impersonate another user:

  1. Access the user’s profile.

  2. Click Options.

  3. Select Impersonate.

While impersonating another user, a warning message will always appear in the bottom-right corner of your screen.

To return to your profile, click the Back to my account button located in the warning message area at the bottom of the application.

Reviewing the activity log

All impersonation activity is recorded in the My activity log tab within the My profile section of the user who initiated the impersonation.

Additionally, under User reports → User activity log for the past 365 days, you can use the Impersonator username column to identify which users (besides your own account) have used the impersonation feature and review their associated actions within the predefined reports.

You can also view the same information under User reports → User activity log (last 30 days). Unlike the User activity log (last 365 days), this report includes activity from the current day.

Note: The Impersonator username column is visible only if the module is enabled. Once the module is disabled, this column will no longer be displayed.
