How to Use Screen Reader Software While Taking a Test

This article explains how to use a screen reader while taking a test. YouTestMe GetCertified currently does not have screen reader software embedded in the system, but it is compatible with any other screen reader software. This article will explain the Jaws screen reader and Google Chrome extension ChromeVox.

Jaws Download #

To download the Jaws screen reader, please go to this link.

Kindly note that you can use a free 40-minute mode or purchase the software.
Once you install the program and open it, you will be required to close all applications and press ENTER in order to restart the computer and start using the program.

ChromeVox Download #

To download the Google Chrome extension, use this link. This extension is free and can be used to read the screens in the YouTestMe GetCertified application.

Kindly note that navigation buttons can be changed for both programs according to your preferences.

Taking a Test Using a Screen Reader #

Login into the YouTestMe GetCertified #

To start the test, you should log in to the application using the provided application link.

For easier navigation, please use your keyboard. Kindly note that the navigation buttons depend on the predefined program’s shortcuts.

You will be required to enter your username and password, and then you can log into the application.

Starting a Test #

Using the keyboard buttons, navigate to the Assignments panel and open the My tests page. Find a test you want to start using a search field and type in the test name.

Start the desired test using the shortcut when hearing the Start button.

After hearing the main test settings and confirming the instructions by pressing the designated shortcut to check the checkbox, you can answer the questions by pressing the shortcut when you hear the Start button.

Answering the Questions #

Using your keyboard, answer the questions, and once you are done, finish the test by pressing the shortcut when hearing the Finish test button.
