How to use the question and answer randomization option

For versions:

This article will explain the “Question randomization” and “Answer randomization” option.

Manually created test

The manually created test is made by adding questions one by one or importing questions from the pool (For more information on how to create a test, please see How to create a simple test). For both options of manual creation, the rules apply:

  1. Answers to Ordering and Matching question types are always randomized.
  2. Answers of Essay, True/false, Matrix, Open-ended, and Hot Spot types of questions are never randomized, always have the same answer order.
  3. Multiple and Single choice questions always have the same answer order by default but can be randomized by enabling the “Answer randomization” option.

Note: Questions for manually created tests are randomized by enabling the “Question randomization” option in the “Add questions” step of the test creation process.

Test Generator

Test Generator imports questions from the chosen question pools and allows creating an unlimited number of versions of the same test (For more information on how to create the generated test, please see How to create generated test). For this type of test, the rules apply:

  1. The answers of Ordering and Matching types of questions are always randomized.
  2. Answers of Essay, True/False, Matrix, Open-ended, and Hot Spot types of questions are never randomized, always have the same order.
  3. Multiple and Single choice questions always have the same answer order by default.

Note: For the test created using the test generator, there is no option “Answer randomization” that can be enabled. Also, these tests always have different combinations of questions (contained in the selected pool) unless you have defined a specific number of test versions – by unchecking the box for the “Generate test versions dynamic” option and defining the number of test versions in the “Generator” step.
