How to Configure Test Results Validity Period

This article explains how to enable and configure the test results validity period in YouTestMe. Users with admin roles can define how long test results remain valid. Once this validity period expires, candidates will no longer have access to their results and will need to retake the test to maintain their certification or compliance.

The test validity feature is essential in industries where recertification or continuous assessment is required. For example, IT certifications often require renewal every year or two, healthcare professionals must regularly update their qualifications, and compliance training may need to be refreshed annually.

For video instructions on how to configure the test validity option, please watch this video.

Enabling the Test Validity Period

To define the test validity period, please follow these instructions:

  1. Navigate to the Tests section in the left-side menu.
  2. Select Manage tests from the drop-down menu.
  3. Choose the desired test from the list.

  1. Navigate to the Settings tab and choose Result validity settings.
  2. Check the Enable validity period option.
  3. Define the Test validity period (in days). This represents the period during which the test results will be valid, e.g., how much time in days those results hold. After this period, the test needs to be retaken (results become suspended). The test sessions will be automatically created for test retaking.
  4. Click the Save button to save the settings.

The validity period of the result begins upon test completion, and after that period expires, the test results become invalid. To set up the re-certification process, enable the retake option.

What Happens When the Validity Period Expires

Once the defined validity period ends, the candidate’s test results become invalid. This means:

  • Candidates will no longer be able to access their past test results or scores.

  • The system will automatically generate a new test session, allowing them to retake the test.

  • Administrators can configure retake permissions and session availability, depending on whether the session is limited to certain candidates or open to self-enrollment.

For example, if the validity is set to 365 days, a candidate who completed the test today will have access to their results for one year. After that, they will need to retake the test to maintain their certification or compliance.

Candidate Perspective: Before and After Expiry

From the candidate’s point of view:

  • Before expiry: Candidates can view their test results and scores as usual through their profile or assignments.

  • After expiry: Candidates will see that their results are no longer available, and they will be prompted (or required) to retake the test if they want to regain valid certification or status.

Note: Depending on the system configuration, candidates may receive notifications or reminders about upcoming expiry dates or the need to retake the test. It is recommended that administrators communicate this process clearly to candidates so they are prepared for expiry and retake requirements.

If the session is defined for certain candidates, only those who have previously taken the test will be able to retake the test after the validity period has expired.

If the session has the self-enrollment option enabled, the test will be able to be taken by all users who have previously taken the test and users who did not take it yet.
