How to Create Question Categories

This article explains how to create additional fields – question categories in the application. Based on those categories, you can later generate tests. The steps for creating question categories are elucidated below in two distinct methods:

  • Creating question categories in the “Tests/Question Categories” section.
  • Creating question categories in the “System/Settings and Customization” section.

Creating question categories in the “Tests/Question Categories” section #

To create categories in the “Tests/Question categories” section, allowing you to define questions, two distinct approaches are available:

  1. Global Question Categories: These categories operate globally, making them accessible to all individuals authorized to manage question categories across the system. Any user with the appropriate permissions can view and manage these categories.
  2. Workspace Question Categories: This option restricts access to the question categories within specific workspaces. Only workspace members who possess the necessary authorization to manage question categories within that workspace can see and access these categories.

Creating Global Question Categories #

To create global categories in the “Tests/Question categories” section, follow these steps:

  1. Click the “Tests” section in the left-side menu, then choose the “Question categories” page.
  2. Click the “Create new” button.

A pop-up window will appear, and you need to input the following:

  1. Enter the category name.
  2. Optionally, enter the description.
  3. Click the “Save” button to preserve all the changes.

To add the desired values for created category:

  1. Click the “Define values” button.
  2. Click the “Add new value” button.

A pop-up window will appear, and you need to input the following:

  1. Enter the name for the value.
  2. Optionally enter the description for the value.
  3. Click the “Save” button. Note: You can add as many values as you want.

Additionally, you can add sub-values as well:

  1. Select the node on the left side.
  2. Click the “Add new value” button.

A pop-up window will appear, and you need to input the following:

  1. Enter the name.
  2. Optionally enter the description for the value.
  3. Click the “Save” button. You can add as many child values as you want.

Note: You can create as many values and sub-values as you want.

Creating Workspace Question Categories #

To ensure that only the right users can access a question category, assigning it to a specific workspace is crucial. Only managers and authorized workspace members possessing the requisite permissions to manage question categories within that workspace can view and access the question category. When assigning a workspace to a question category, you can only select workspaces with permission to create a question category. Other users can modify the assigned workspace only if they hold similar or system role permissions.

To create categories and specify the workspace for the category, follow these steps:

  1. Click the “Create new” button.
  2. Enter the category name.
  3. Optionally, enter the description.
  4. From the dropdown menu, select the desired “Workspace” where you intend to assign the category.
  5. Click the “Save” button to preserve all the changes. Note:  Adding values and sub-values remains the same as when creating a global question category. For detailed instructions, please refer to the Creating Global Question Categories chapter.

Global admin vs. Workspace admin view #

When accessing the application, the global admin will be presented with a list of all question categories within the system, including workspace-specific question categories.

When accessing the application, the workspace admin will have a list of all question categories within the specific/assigned workspace.

Creating question categories in the “System/Settings and customization” section #

To create categories in the “System/Settings and customization” section, enabling you to define questions, two identical methods as in “Tests/Question categories” are available: Global Question Categories and Workspace Question Categories.

To create categories in the “Tests/Question categories” section, follow these steps:

  1. Click the “System” section in the left side menu, then choose the “Settings and customization” page.
  2. Navigate to the “Custom properties” tab.
  3. Navigate to the “Question categories” in the side menu.
  4. Click the “Create new” button.

    Note: Creating categories, adding values, and sub-values follows the same steps as in the “Test/Question Categories” section.
