How to Set Up Custom Domain and SSL Certificate

This article will guide you through the process of configuring your domain and SSL certificate, whether you’re looking to set up your application with a custom domain name or choose between providing your own SSL certificate or letting us generate and maintain one for you.

Send the desired domain #

The first step is to send us the domain name (URL) you want to use for your application. Once we receive your desired domain name, we will provide you with the specific YouTestMe domain that you should use to update your domain’s CNAME record.

Change your DNS settings #

To access the application hosted by YouTestMe using your domain, edit the domain’s DNS settings and create a CNAME record (a CNAME record maps one domain name to another domain name) that points to provided domain. The process for changing DNS settings may vary depending on your domain provider.

Here is an example of how to change a CNAME record in GoDaddy.

Use a DNS checker to make sure your DNS is configured. DNS Checker offers a user-friendly tool to check DNS propagation for any hostname or domain. Just enter the desired hostname or domain to begin the check.

Choose SSL certificate option #

SSL certificates are crucial for securing your application and protecting your users’ data. You have two options for SSL certificates:

 1. Provide your own SSL certificate #

If you have an SSL certificate issued by your domain provider, you can send it to us to install on our web server. However, you’ll need to provide a new SSL certificate every year.

 2. Let us generate and maintain your SSL certificate #

Alternatively, we can generate and maintain Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates for your domain. This is a hassle-free option that ensures your website is always secured with the latest SSL certificate.

By following the steps outlined in this article, you can ensure that your instance is accessible through a custom domain name and secured with an SSL certificate.
