This article explains how to set availability periods for individual test sections. By defining different start and end times, test-takers can access sections at specific intervals instead of all at once. This provides administrators with more control over the testing process and offers students greater flexibility.
Setting Availability Periods for Each Section
To set availability periods for each section of your test, please follow these steps:
- From the main menu, choose Tests and navigate to Manage Tests.
- From the list of tests, select the desired test (with sections) by clicking on its name.
- Navigate to the Testing Sessions tab.
- From this tab, you can either edit existing testing sessions or create new ones to specify the availability period for each test section.
- In the testing session pop-up, check the box next to Define availability for each test section.
- Decide how sections behave when their defined availability time expires:
- Allow finish if started within the timeframe – Candidates can complete the section if they started it before the end time, even if the allotted time expires.
- Must start and finish within a defined timeframe – Candidates must begin and complete the section within the defined start and end time. If they don’t finish in time, the section automatically ends
- From the Action tab, click the Edit icon.
- Define the start time for each section.
- Specify the end time for each section.
- Click the Save button to preserve your changes.
Note: To use the feature where sections become available at different times, enable the Allow Test Continuation option. This allows the candidate to return to the test when the next section becomes available. Please follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Settings tab and click on Pause, Retake, and Reschedule Settings.
- Check the box next to Allow Test Continuation.
- Click the Save button to preserve your changes.
Candidate Perspective
When a candidate starts a test with sections, a pop-up window will appear. In this window, the candidate can see:
- The name of each section.
- The availability period of each section (Available from – Available to).
- The status of each section (e.g., Available or Upcoming).
- The option to “Start section” for any section that is currently available.
