This article explains how to add translations to both existing and newly created questions directly within the application.
Translations can be entered manually or generated using the auto-translate feature.
Alternatively, you may import translations in bulk using an Excel template—see this guide for instructions on how to complete it.
Manually Translating Questions
You can add translations when creating a new question or editing an existing one.
Accessing the Translation Option:
- Select the Tests, then the Question pools tab.
- Select the desired question pool.
- Select the Questions tab.
To add translations to questions, follow these steps:
- Edit an Existing Question: Select the Edit option next to the question you wish to modify. This allows you to update the content and settings and add translations if available.
- Add a New Question: Click the Add Question button and select the desired question type. After creating the question, look for an option to add translations to ensure it’s accessible in multiple languages.
Adding Manual Translations:
In the question settings, select Show more settings.
-
- Scroll down to the Translate option and select the Add translation button.
- Select the desired language.
- Enter translations manually for each language you need.
- After entering each translation, save the changes to apply them.
Note: When using the advanced editor for questions with multiple answers (e.g., single-choice or multiple-choice), a minor visual limitation may occur — the color panel of the last answer might overlap. This does not affect functionality or how the question is saved.
Automatically Translating Questions
If you prefer automatic translation, you can use the built-in Google Translate integration.
Setup:
-
- Go to System, then System and customization
- Select Theme and language
- Access to the Translation settings.
- Enter your API key in the Translation settings section and save the changes.
Using Auto-Translate:
Once the API key is set:
-
In the question editor, select the desired language.
-
Click Auto-Translate.
-
The system will translate the question and overwrite existing text in the selected fields.
-
Save your changes.
Note:
- The translation limit is 3,000 characters per text field. The translation restriction of 3,000 characters per text field is set by Google Translate, not the YouTestMe application.
- The question translation can be added from the Test creation wizard as well.
Candidates perspective
Depending on the language set in the user’s profile under the Language in app field, the user will see the question presented in the selected language translation. If the language translation for the selected language on the users profile is not available, the question will be displayed in the default language (English).
Note: The language in which a question is answered is preserved in the candidate’s personal report.
For example, if a candidate answers one question in Italian, another in French, and another in Spanish, those questions will appear in the report in their respective languages — regardless of the profile language.
